Chiang Mai Montessori International School

Chiang Mai Montessori International School is located in the Hang Dong district of Chiang Mai and is surrounded by glorious countryside. The school was founded in 2010 and is a relatively small outfit that stands on around nine rai of land. Chiang Mai Montessori School follows the Montessori philosophy of constructivist learning, which means “follows the child”, a common theme available around the world. They offer a very different form of learning to that which is available at conventional schools in the city, which they are proud of.

Lessons are taught in English by AMI trained teachers with five classes available for students from 18 months to 12 years old. The classrooms are designed to have a very calming influence on students, and the emphasis is on providing a balanced education rather than one that focuses merely on academia. Children are treated as individuals and are taught in accordance with their own needs and interests. Learning is always at a pace that children are comfortable with. The school believe that learning is a complete journey and something that will continue throughout life.

The school has some good facilities, particularly the Magnolia Garden, which opened in January 2021, and encourages children to become more aware of their environment. Role-play forms an integral part of the education system. However, it should be stressed that English, Maths and Science are taught per the Cambridge Primary Curriculum. The pupils encouraged, but not forced, to commence academic studies from the youngest possible age.

Of course, the school provides an extensive range of extracurricular activities and has COVID protocols in place, and contingency plans should anything similar be required in the future. The teachers come from various countries, including native English and Chinese speakers, which significantly helps the students with their foreign language understanding.

Like most international schools in Chiang Mai, Chiang Montessori International School offers students excellent support with counsellors and a nurse available. Each teacher is supported by teaching assistants to ensure that students get the care and attention they need and deserve. The school is in the mid-range price bracket.
